Bafana Bafana will take on their French counterparts during the next the next international window in March.

Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the World Cup

Bafana Bafana have not been in action since their controversial 1-0 loss to Ghana, which knocked them out of the running for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Hugo Broos’ men went down to a controversially awarded penalty, away in Ghana. That loss was also the veteran Belgian mentor’s first as the coach of the South African national team.

Although SAFA did try to contest the result, in what caused a frenzy between them and the Ghana FA, FIFA would then eventually dismiss the South African’s even though they felt that, they had a case strengthened by the findings of former top local referee Ace Ncobo. Had things worked out differently for SAFA, Bafana Bafana would’ve been contesting the final round of qualifiers for the World Cup in the upcoming international break.

High profile friendly against France

But, Bafana Bafana will be taking on France in what they can draw solace from as a very high profile international friendly. Friendly matches of this calibre had become somewhat of a rare occurrence for the national. Therefore Broos’ excitement at taking on the defending world champions is understandable. Speaking to Sunday World, he couldn’t hide his delight at the news.

“I am very happy that we will be playing a big friendly international against France. We (Bafana Bafana) are also just waiting to hear who will be our second opponents,” said Broos to the Sunday World.

Broos talks up French benefits

Broos also talked up the quality of the opponents and what this game could do for his Bafana Bafana squad.

“France are the world champions and our players will learn a lot from playing against such a powerful team. They have world-class players such as Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann and Hugo Lloris and it will be great if we can measure ourselves against such high calibre stars. I am sure our young players are excited about this prospect,” said Broos.

Broos then went to explain the opportunity that exits for the Bafana Bafana players when they take on the French.

An opportunity to be grabbed by the Bafana Bafana players?

“It is also an opportunity to advertise our players in front of the world because other African countries have their players in the big leagues in the world. Maybe clubs can see our players against France and have an interest in them. Right now, the big clubs in the world do not know our players. I have heard that the association is also talking to a strong second team to face us, that will be good for our team,” concluded Broos.

It will be interesting to see how different Broos’ next squad will be from the last, as well as how they equip themselves against France. But one thing is for sure, this will be the biggest international fixture the bulk of that squad would’ve played.
