Kekana transfer update: ‘KK’ set to remain in Gauteng?

According to reports, former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana is set to remain in Gauteng as he edges closer to a new club!

Hlompho Kekana looks set to remain in Gauteng following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns FC.

According to reports, an unnamed Gauteng side are set to pounce on the legendary midfielder.

Kekana was tipped to join Limpopo side Baroka FC however, club boss Kurishi Mphahlele put an end to speculation after claiming there’s no deal on the table as things stand.

Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC were also rumoured to be interested in the ex Bafana Bafana star’s signature however, according to new reports, Kekana looks set to sign for a Gauteng team!

“Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana is understood to be in talks with a Gauteng-based side as he looks to return to the DStv Premiership when the season resumes next month.” a Phakaaathi report read.

“Most of the teams in the DStv Premiership would love to have a player of Hlompho’s quality, but the issue is that only a few can afford him.” a source told the publication.

“Never mind his age, ‘KK’ has accomplished a lot in his career and he cannot just sign a deal for the sake of it, it has to be worth it,”

KK to move on after decade long Mamelodi Sundowns stay

After spending 10 years at Mamelodi Sundowns, Hlompho Kekana is edging closer to finally turning out for a new PSL side. Kekana left the Brazilians in September 2021.

“Airplanes and busses, time spent at airports, the opportunity to interact with people from across the continent and even beyond.” – Kekana said at the time.

“I’ve got to see what Mamelodi Sundowns means to people. I’ve got the opportunity to captain the side and develop my leadership skills.

“I’ve got to learn lessons about football, business and life from coaches, teammates, and so many other great people and beautiful souls who make the club run and try to make things easy for us players.” Hlompho Kekana added.

“Cheers to 10 years of memories, lessons and growth. I am grateful to have got to be part of and help build on the legacy of this wonderful club.”
