An AmaZulu side which has yet to score in three matches this season visits Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium on Tuesday evening in the Absa Premiership.

However, Usuthu are coming off the back of a solid performance in the 0-0 draw with Orlando Pirates. Neil Boshoff was impressive in goal on debut and Siyethemba Sithebe hit the woodwork with a long-range piledriver.

Highlands Park find themselves in a difficult position too, although their problems have mostly been at the other end of the pitch. A 3-2 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs was followed up by 1-1 draws with Maritzburg United and Black Leopards, although they did pick up a 1-0 MTN8 win over Orlando Pirates in between.

The Lions of the North have been plagued by injuries, but coach Owen da Gama was not in any mood to absolve his players of liability for their stuttering form.

“People have got to take responsibility, the players have got to. We plan, we work on them the whole week, and then they come into the match and do whatever they feel like doing. Certain players are really working for other players. It’s not right; we should be working as a collective,” da Gama told SuperSport TV after the away draw against Lidoda Duvha.

“But I’ll take the point considering that [Makhehlene] Makhaula is out, [Limbikani] Mzava is out, Lesenya [Ramoraka] is out — you know, because of long-term injuries — [Lindokuhle] Mbatha is out.”

“We’re not complaining about that. What we’re saying is: the players that got the opportunity to come in must take responsibility and show why they’ve been selected — it’s as simple as that.”
