They call it the beautiful game, and if you are one of these guys plying you’re trade in the ABSA PSL, you’re bank balance will surely agree.
Though South Africa’s monthly wages aren’t as eye-watering as those dished out in the European leagues, there’s still plenty of money to be made by staying in Mzansi.
Granted, there is still some disparity between those earning the most money in the league and others who are just managing to scrape by. Research from 2015 pinpointed the average monthly wage of a PSL player to be R44,000 a month.
We’d say that’s the halfway point between “it’s a living” and “rolling in it”. The average Joe still has a long way to go before they make as much moolah as these lucky buggers:
(All figures are based on a monthly wage)
Chinonso Christian Obiozor: R170,000
Dové Womé (currently on loan to SuperSport United): R270,000
(Excluding Khune and Tshabalala)
Eric Mathoho: R150,000
Keagan Buchanan: R150,000
Bernard Parker: R300,000
(Excluding the aforementioned Anthony Laffor and Ejike Uzoenyi)
Sibusiso Vilakazi: R200,000
Anele Ngcongca: R200,000
Khama Billiat: R350,000 – R400,000
(Excluding SA’s fourth-biggest soccer earner, Steven Pienaar)
Moeneeb Josephs: R220,000
Daine Klate: R250,000
Elias Gaspar Pelembe: R320,000
Dean Furman, SuperSport United: R300,000
Siyanda Xulu, Maritzburg United: R350,000
