Kaizer Chiefs target Pitso Mosimane is set to leave Abha Club after his side were relegated from the Saudi Pro League on Monday evening.

Mosimane’s side needed a win to survive but suffered a shock 2-1 loss to bottom side Al Ahzem. The Abha hired the 59-year-old coach in January to help the team survive relegation. After the match, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach said he took a gamble but it didn’t pay off.

Pitso Mosimane has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs since 2023

“I took a risk. I knew it was a difficult task, but I had hope when we got out of the danger zone three times,” Mosimane said.

“Everything must be accepted, and my contract with the club expires today,” he said as per Citizen.

Pitso Mosimane’s departure could open the door for Kaizer Chiefs, who are yet to sign a new coach. Amakhosi have concluded their season and might have time to sit down and negotiate with coaches. The club has already shortlisted several top coaches but are yet to reveal their names. Pitso could be on his way out of the Middle East in June allowing Kaizer Chiefs to have talks with the former Al Ahly mentor.

In December, ‘Jingles’ said he spoke to Chiefs several times but not regarding football. The opportunity to sign Pitso was there in December but the club decided not to entertain the highly-rated coach. It might be second time lucky for Amakhosi if Jingles indeed leaves Saudi.

Kaizer Chiefs management have the next few weeks to sign a new coach, whether it’s Pitso or not. Their supporters have made it clear that Jingles is the only coach they want next season at Naturena. Whether the club can afford Mosimane remains a mystery but everything will unfold in the coming weeks.
