Mamelodi Sundowns will look to keep pace with early frontrunners Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) when they visit Steve Komphela’s Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

The Brazilians were held to a 0-0 midweek draw by Baroka and trail Amakhosi by seven points with a game in hand. Pitso Mosimane’s men can ill afford any further slip-ups.

Golden Arrows have grown in solidity throughout the season and are coming off the back of a 1-0 Telkom Knockout win and 0-0 Premiership draw with SuperSport United.

Matsatsantsa can be a dangerous side, as Sundowns discovered in this season’s MTN8 semi-finals, and favourable results against them suggest Arrows have well and truly turned the corner.

Mosimane has long been full of praise for Komphela. A little over a year ago, when the latter was at Bloemfontein Celtic, the Sundowns boss said: “Coach Steve is showing that he’s been good all the time, irrespective of what happened at Kaizer Chiefs.”

Kick-off time and prediction

Kick-off time: Sunday 10 November at 15:30

Prediction: Arrows’ home advantage and Sundowns’ tired legs should make this a difficult test for the defending champions. Mosimane has plenty of potential match-winners in his squad, but this time, Abafana Bes’thende are expected to nullify their threat and come away with a surprise draw.
