As reported by The South African website, the club looked set to punished for fielding new recruit Simo Mbhele without an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

But PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu says that Golden Arrows will now not lose any points despite both the player and club having been found guilty of contravening the rules.

Majavu said according to Soccer Laduma: “A week ago the PSL DC had returned a guilty verdict against both the club and Mr. Mbhele pertaining to Mr. Mbhele registration which it concluded was improper.

“The question of sanction was then argued and judgement in that regard was reserved. The sanction ruling has deemed it appropriate to reprimand both the club and the player and ordered both of them – the one paying the other to be absolved to pay the costs of the two seatings.

“The exact amount has yet to be computed by the league, however, there was no decision with regard to any monetary fine or the deduction of points. It will be remembered that in convincing the club, as well as the player for the said improper registration the DC, found dishonest conduct was not proved by the league.

“With that being the case, it felt that the sanction, pertaining to docking of points would thus be inappropriate under the circumstances.”

Golden Arrows will therefore remain in 10th place in the DStv Premiership standings with 25 points after 19 matches.

A nine-point deduction would’ve dropped them all the way down to 15th place and deep into the relegation dogfight.

Golden Arrows will next play Chippa United

As such, the ruling comes as bad news for those scrapping for survival, including Baroka FC and Chippa United in particular.

Golden Arrows will next be in action at home against Chippa United on Sunday, 6 March.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:30.
