Chiefs have been going through a squad overhaul with Msimango also previously mooted as a target for the club.

Rumours have since died down

Despite all the early rumours, they seem to have died down with Msimango still at Galaxy and now it seems more likely that he will remain in Mpumalanga instead of move to Chiefs. That is because the rumours have died down over the last couple of weeks, with no sign of an approach coming from Amakhosi for the lanky star.

That in itself could be telling about just how much interest was really invested by Chiefs into Msimango. What could be even more telling, however, is that even though Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi had openly admitted that he is willing to sell the player, Amakhosi still did not advance any interest they would’ve had on the player by putting in a bid.

Sukazi willing to sell

“Given’s contract ends in 2024. There’s been no formal interest other than rumours and all that. I don’t take rumours seriously. But generally, and I have said this to the players, our club is not in the luxury position of refusing player transfers or offers for players at this stage. We are still in the formative stages in the Premier League and we are a humble club. We are duty bound, if there is a good offer for the player and the club, to give them a good opportunity. It applies to Given and to everyone else,” Sukazi said last month.

Chiefs have not made any offer

That stance does not seem to have changed, however, as though the willingness to sell is there, it does not seem to have ignited a bid from Chiefs. Msimango himself, has since commented on the rumours and opened about how far the interest went.

Msimango opens up about rumours

“When the rumours started, I mean a big club like that requiring your services, it gets you excited, It gets you in a space where you feel you have done well because you’re being recognised for the work you do. However, the professional side of me brought me to my senses. I went to find out what was happening , I contacted the right people, my chairman and agent to find out how true it was. There was some truth to it but no further steps were taken to make it possible and I was okay with it because I’m in a professional environment.” Said Msimango on the TS Galaxy Podcast.

At the moment it looks as if Chiefs are content with their defensive options, with Msimango seeming like a player they might have an eye on for the future rather than the present.
