Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has spoken ahead of his return to FNB Stadium with his new team, Chippa United.

Both sides have struggled in the opening six matches of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season with Amakhosi in 12th place with six points and the Chilli Boys one position lower in the standings with five points.

Hunt says his Gqeberha-based team want to improve – and to move up the standings.

“We are obviously trying to do the best we can and trying to get ourselves up the league a little bit more. We let ourselves down in the last couple of games, I think, we should have got a lot more points which would have certainly got us a little bit more stable. We’ll have another go on Saturday,” said Hunt, speaking through the club’s media department.

Recently, as reported by The South African website, Chippa United chairperson Siviwe Mpengesi said that the team’s slow start to the season has been concerning, but added his full backing of Hunt as coach.

Of particular concern for Hunt heading into Saturday’s clash is the fact he struggled during the recent FIFA international break to arrange competitive friendlies for his team due to the lack of professional clubs and opponents in general in the Eastern Cape area.

Kick-off on Saturday is at 17:30.
