SuperSport United boss Gavin Hunt was overjoyed after his side secured a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in their penultimate 2022/23 DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday.

Gamphani Lungu scored the only goal of the match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the 41st-minute.

The result kept Matsatsantsa in third place on 51 log points, level with Orlando Pirates in second spot.

Neither can catch champions Mamelodi Sundowns, nor be caught by the current fourth-placed side, Kaizer Chiefs.

Whoever does end second overall will join Masandawana in representing South Africa in next season’s premier African club tournament, the CAF Champions League, while the third-placed side will enter the CAF Confederation Cup.

Both sides will be on the road next weekend with both playing at 15:00.

Orlando Pirates will take on 12th-placed side AmaZulu, while SuperSport United will travel to play seventh-placed side Sekhukhune United.

The Buccaneers boast a goal differential of +15 while Matsatsantsa are slightly worse off at +13.

Speaking after their win, Gavin Hunt expressed his delight at picking up three vital points against his former employers, that ensured Kaizer Chiefs miss out on CAF Confederation Cup football next season.

Hunt posted on social media: “Three points never tasted so sweet.
