Gavin Hunt: Huge PSL milestone for Kaizer Chiefs coach!

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has reached a record-stretching milestone, this time with one of the biggest clubs in South Africa.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has reached a record-stretching milestone, this time with one of the biggest clubs in South Africa. 

On Wednesday, Hunt sat on the Amakhosi bench for the 41st time as they took on Swallows FC in the league.

But the real milestone is that Hunt has now been in charge of 900 professional matches in his coaching career. 

His first coaching gig was at Hellenic in 1994, and this was soon after retiring from professional football due to a knee injury. 

Hunt then had a brief stint with Seven Stars before assuming the role of head coach at Black Leopards between 2001 and 2002.

The now 56-year-old mentor would spend five years at Moroka Swallows between 2002 and 2007, coaching over 200 official games for them. 

Hunt moved on to join SuperSport United in 2007, and he would leave the Tshwane giants for Bidvest Wits in 2013. 

He enjoyed huge success with Matsatsantsa, delivering three successive league titles despite coaching in just 200 matches.

Hunt then spent seven years at Wits before joining Kaizer Chiefs following the sale of the Braamfontein-based outfit at the end of the 2019-20 season. 

No any other coach in the history of the PSL has sat on the bench 900 times across all competitions.

In addition, the match against Swallows was Hunt’s 20th Soweto derby having led Swallows in 16 other matches against Soweto rivals.
