Orlando Pirates and Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United played to a 0-0 stalemate in the DStv Premiership on Sunday evening, as both sides struggled in attack at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

Both teams had fairly decent chances in front of goal, but none more than second-half substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza.

In what was a golden opportunity for SuperSport late on in the tie, Gabuza fluffed his lines in front of an open net, much to the frustration of coach Gavin Hunt, who dramatically fell to the ground in frustration.

After the game, Hunt admitted he could barely believe his eyes.

“You can’t really say anything, you know. I’d like to say a lot but I can’t,” Hunt said with a chuckle, as quoted by TimesLive. “If I said what I wanted to, they would hang me. I just wipe my eyes, that’s all I can do — I thought I was seeing things.

“We had to suffer without the ball but that’s fine. We still had the best two chances, if you look at the header in the first minute and the one [by Gabuza] late in the game too. It was always going to be a game like that,” Hunt added.

The horror miss even drew a response from Pitso Mosimane, who reacted to the clip and suggested his newly-launched training programme is something that is designed to reduce these sorts of technical errors.

Sunday’s result saw Matsatsantsa pick up only their second point of the 2022/23 season, and move up to 14th place, while the Buccaneers now find themselves in third spot.

SuperSport United have played one match fewer than Orlando Pirates.

Orlando Pirates will next be in action at home against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, 24 August at 19:30 while SuperSport United will travel to KwaZulu-Natal to take on Richards Bay on the same day and at the same time.
