Free State Stars sold for R12 million, set to relocate – report

Free State Stars have reportedly been sold for a fee in the region of R12 million, and it is set to relocate ahead of the new season.

Free State Stars have reportedly been sold for a fee in the region of R12 million, and it is set to relocate before the start of the new season.

According to Daily Sun, Ea Lla Koto have been bought by businessman Bucks Mthombeni who owns Casric FC in the ABC Motsepe League.

The publication further reports that Free State Stars will relocate to KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga once everything has been finalised with the PSL.

Meanwhile, KickOff reports that the sale of the Motsepe Foundation Championship status of Ea Lla Koto has been submitted to the league for approval.

And that the two parties could know the league’s decision on the proposal before the end of business day on Thursday.

After the approval, Free State Stars will be renamed Casric FC, but the contracted players and coach Paulus Masehe are expected to form part of the new team.

FREE STATE PROVINCE MAY NOT HAVE A TEAM IN THE PROFESIONAL RANKS

With Free State Stars in the process of being sold, this means the Free State province may not have a team in the profesional ranks of South African football.

For years, Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic were the only two teams that represented the province in the South Africa topflight.

However, Bloem Celtic sold their status to Royal AM last year, leaving Stars as the last team standing from the Free State province.

Efforts to get hold of Free State Stars co-owner Rantsi Mokoena proved futile as his phone rang unanswered.
