In an announcement on Tuesday, Sekhukhune confirmed they had signed Justin Shonga (from Ismaily SC), Luckyboy Mokoena (TS Galaxy) and Evans Rusike (Supersport United FC).

Mokoena had been searching for a new team after being released by TS Galaxy back in October, while former SuperSport United and Maritzburg United striker Evans Rusike was already spotted at Sekhukhune United towards the end of last year.

The 31-year-old Zimbabwean forward, who has played 81 matches for SuperSport United and 80 for Maritzburg United in his career, left Matsatsantsa last season, but an injury has kept his out of action since.

Meanwhile, as previously reported by The South African website, Shonga, 25, terminated his contract with Egyptian side Ismailly in late 2021 after he wasn’t paid his wages.

Sekhukhune’s new signing Shonga played 77 matches for Pirates

He played 77 matches for Orlando Pirates scoring 16 goals, and 13 matches for Cape Town City and seven for TTM (now Marumo Gallants).

Shonga made just four first team appearances for Ismaily and failed to find the target during his brief stay at the club.

He has not featured for his native Zambia since the 2021 COSAFA Cup held in Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa last July.

Shonga was Chipolopolo’s stand-out player at that COSAFA Cup where he scored three goals as the East Africa nation made a rare group stage exit from the tournament.
