Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Manti Mekoa says it is “time to start preparing for life after football”.

The 36-year-old most recently turned out for Cape Umoya United in the GladAfrica Championship last season.

In addition to playing 16 matches in all competitions for the Buccaneers, Mekoa also represented Free State Stars (46 matches), Chippa United (21), Maritzburg United (15), Golden Arrows (9) and Stellenbosch FC (4).

He has since switched his attentions to his own business in Johannesburg, and Mekoa told Kickoff that the time has come to hang up his boots.

‘I have no regrets’ – Manti Mekoa

He said: “I don’t think I will have time to continue playing football again.

“I am now back in Johannesburg to focus on growing my business. I have enjoyed my time playing football, and now it’s time to start preparing for life after football.

“I would have loved to end my career on a high like helping Cape Umoya gain promotion to the DStv Premiership.

“But I don’t have regrets as I enjoyed every moment of playing football.”
