Namibia’s Shalulile, who was joint-Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot winner two seasons ago (16) and second in the race for the Golden Boot last campaign (15) has already scored 12 DStv Premiership goals in just 15 matches this campaign.

Only four players have scored 20 or more goals in a single season since the PSL’s inception in the 1996/97 season.

Peter Shalulile on track for new record

They are Wilfred Mugeyi (22 goals – 1996/97), Pollen Ndlanya (21 – 1998/99), Colins Mbesuma (25 – 2004/05) and Siyabonga Nomvethe (20 – 2011/12).

Mbesuma holds the record for 25 goals in a single campaign while playing for Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Should Peter Shalulile continue at his current rate, he could well set a new all-time record.

“I think he is one player who can (reach 20 goals). If he stays fit, on form and Sundowns keep creating the goal scoring opportunities for him, then I am sure he can get there. He’s been very clinical since arriving at Sundowns,” Carelse said.
