Former Kaizer Chiefs number 9 Emmanuel ‘Adebayor’ Letlotlo is at a crossroads

According to a source, Letlotlo could have become one of Bafana’s deadliest strikers, but he became distracted by fame and that led to him being sacked by Chiefs. Like Emmanuel Adebayor, the ex-Arsenal and Tottenham striker, Letlotlo had loads of ability but fell victim to indiscipline.

Letlotlo rose through the Chiefs development structures and was seen by many as the next big thing, but a lack of guidance and direction saw him fall off the rails. Apparently he wasn’t receptive to taking advice as he became “big-headed” after promotion to the Amakhosi first team.

Poor decisions derailed “Adebayor” Letlotlo

“If you tell me about Adebayor (Letlotlo), I will tell you a lot. That was a boy who had everything coming his way. Everything was there for him. The future was very bright. I don’t want to lie to you, every young boy in the Chiefs development craved him, they wanted to be like him. He had everything, but wrong decisions killed him,” said a source.

“I don’t want to lie to you, when it comes to friends, a lot of players make bad choices, and Adebayor is one of those. He made some bad choices in his life and I feel sorry for him because he should be the number striker for Chiefs or playing in Europe at the moment. But what happened, friends and fun time killed him. He thought he made it, but it was only the beginning. I won’t blame Chiefs, they did everything for him, but he thought he knew it all because he was all over the billboards.”

Letlotlo is said to be currently playing his football in the Motsepe Foundation Championship club somewhere in the Northern Cape. It’s a steep fall from grace. His last involvement in top-flight football was with Royal AM. He’s still only 27 years old!
