Mashiane, still only 23, was red-carded on the stroke of half-time for a reckless tackle on Al Ahly defender Akram Tawfik in the tournament decider in Casablanca, Morocco on Saturday.

“The young kid had Kaizer Chiefs playing in front of him and closing down the player. Take age way, that was totally not acceptable in my opinion. I know he’s a youngster and everybody is putting their arm around him and saying don’t worry, but I don’t know when Kaizer Chiefs will get to another Africa cup final if you are going to say don’t worry, and you don’t want to destroy the youngster’s career,” said Stylianou, according to Soccer Laduma.

“But once you are a professional whether you are 18 or 32, you’ve got to understand the consequences. I’m old school and in my team, you play, and you are not going to tell me that you are a kid, then I’m saying what the hell are you doing on the field? Go back to the reserve team,” he added.

Stylianou joined Kaizer Chiefs in 1978, the first year of the non-racial league in South Africa, becoming the first white player to become a Glamour Boy.
