After struggling for game-time at the KwaZulu-Natal club, the lanky 32-year-old defender is heading for the exit door according to the Soccer Laduma website.

The list of clubs Mario Booysen hasn’t played for in South African football is shorter than the one listing his former clubs.

Cape Town-born Booysen spent his youth career at Bluegum United and Ajax Cape Town.

After leading Ajax Cape Town in 2021, he spent loan spells at Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United and SuperSport United.

He also spent three seasons at Mamelodi Sundowns before returning to his Ajax Cape Town roots between 2017 to 2018.

Mario Booysen was then signed by Kaizer Chiefs for the 2018/19 season, but was released after that campaign after failing out of favour with then coach Ernst Middendorp.

He played a total of 14 matches for Amakhosi.

He then joined AmaZulu signed a two-year contract with Usuthu ahead of the 2019/20 campaign season.

However, he has only made one appearance as a substitute this season.

After taking over as coach of AmaZulu late last year, Benni McCarthy has identified the players who are part of his long-term plans at the club and it appears that Mario Booysen is not one of those and will be moving on sooner rather than later.
