Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana defender Gould handed role at Sekhukhune

Sekhukhune United have promoted Morgan Gould from the DStv Diski Challenge team. He will now be second assistant to coach Brandon Truter and first assistant McDonald Makhubedu.

“I have now been tasked to become a second assistant which is a big jump,” said Gould.

“But I’m very, very excited and DDC has taught me something you need to be patient, you need to be understanding, you need to bring everybody in together.”

OPINION: Best PSL XI outside of Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates & Mamelodi Sundowns

39-year-old Gould joined Sekhukhune at the start of the 2020/21 season when the club was campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They were promoted at the end of the season via the boardroom.

With the club now in South Africa’s top-flight, Sekhukhune restructured. Gould then became DDC coach.

“So that position (of DDC) taught me how to work with other people and try to get the best of other people,” Gould said.

“My objective is just to grow and also introduce new players coming from the junior ranks and those co from different areas because football has evolved – there is a lot of sport science involved.

“But for me to help the coach (Truter) reach his mandate and make the Sekhukhune nation very proud – as a former player to be part of their technical staff.”

Gould had plenty of success as a player

In his first season with Chiefs, Gould added another league title and the Ke Yona Cup. In 2014/15, Gould clinched a league and MTN8 double with Amakhosi.
