EXCLUSIVE: Where is Phakamani Mahlambi? What’s next for him?

Chippa United have given an update on tricky winger Phakamani Mahlambi’s where about and playing status.

DStv Premiership has already entered its second round of the season, with the last update being that Mahlambi had returned to Mamelodi Sundowns. 

Mahlambi got injured while enjoying momentum

The nature of Mahlambi’s return to his parent club, Sundowns was to help with his reputation, after her had suffered a serious injury. That set back would have come at the worst possible time for the player, as he was possibly beginning to rediscover his form, after getting a bit of momentum under his belt. 

Off field issues rumours

Besides suffering from that Achilles tendon injury, there were also rumours that Mahlambi had gone back to his undisciplined ways in Gqeberha. Those reports had come at the same time as the reduction of his playing time for Chippa under their former coach Gavin Hunt. It was thought that Chippa had grown impatient before the injury and were, in fact, ready to call it quits on the player’s loan from Sundowns just a couple of months down the line.

Not too long ago, it was even suggested that Mahlambi’s season was over, but there has since been a positive update on his situation. Speaking to The South African News , Chippa caretaker coach Kurt Lentjies revealed the players whereabouts as well as his current fitness situation.

“Mahlambi is with us (Chippa), he has just returned to the grass and is now jogging. Hopefully he can complete his rehabilitation and help the side before the end of the season” said Lentjies.

Mahlambi burst on to the seen as an exciting young winger at the now defunct Bidvest Wits. His performances for the club saw his name on everybody’s lips in the South African football fraternity. It was then not long until he was linked with every top club in the DStv Premiership but then shocked many by deciding to take the road less travelled by joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Mahlambi will now be hoping that his road to recovery will take pack to the pitch before the end of the season, so he can once again, prove his worth.
