A former Orlando Pirates star will not struggle to find a new home for next season, according to reports.

Two weeks ago, Pirates released six players as they prepare to challenge on all fronts next season.

Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Thabang Monare and Siyabonga Mpontshane were all released by Pirates. Those being players who have seen their deals at expire at the club, with management deeming them surplus to requirements. There are still players who are under contract who could be loaned out, sold or see their deals terminated at the Houghton-based outfit.

Ofori released by Pirates

One of those players on the list, in Ofori, is was reported to be of interest to SuperSport United last week. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, there is interest in at least three continents for the ex-Pirates man. This includes Chippa United joining SuperSport in the local market.

“Chippa United started the talks even before he (Ofori) was released by Orlando Pirates. This is because they were preparing for the departure of their first choice goalkeeper (Stanley Nwabali). Then we heard that SuperSport may be an option too. If it happens that he can’t join a PSL club then he still has teams interested in him from Europe and the Middle East. But his representatives are giving the DStv Premiership their first priority for now and if something doesn’t come up then they will look at the overseas interest,”. Said the source to the publication.

Still in demand

On the other hand, after releasing Ofori, Pirates are looking to have a goalkeeper refresh of their own. Mpontshane is another senior goalkeeper that has been released. This means there will be at least one senior goalkeeper signed by the club. Nwabali is heavily linked with the club and it remains to be seen if that deal will be done.
