Former Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns superstar Khama Billiat could be in line for a sensational return to the PSL.

Billiat’s not closed the door on PSL football yet

According to SoccerLaduma sources, Khama Billiat could still return to the PSL from Zimbabwean outfit Yadah. This was after Billiat spent eight months without a club following a fallout with Kaizer Chiefs. The initial plan with Yadah was to regain fitness and potentially secure a move to the Middle East. With a move abroad looking increasingly unlikely, sources indicate a return to South Africa and the DStv Premiership is potentially on the cards.

“Look, Khama Billiat remains a top player and one of the best of his generation. He’s still hungry for competitive football at the highest level as he was when he played for big clubs like Chiefs and Sundowns. Yes, a PSL return can’t be ruled out for him as part of the plans for next season,” said the source.

When he went to train with SuperSport United, maybe his fitness and confidence levels weren’t up to the required standards. Going back to Zimbabwe where he has been training with the team and managed to get much-needed minutes of competitive football helped the guy to be where he should be with his fitness. The next move for him could be in the PSL,” the source added.

Billiat’s Kaizer Chiefs career didn’t go according to plan

Khama’s 24 goals and 29 assists in 126 appearances for Chiefs mean he directly contributed to 0.42 goals per game for the Glamour Boys. Contrast that with his stats for Sundowns, where his direct output was 0.64 goals per game. The numbers don’t lie, and not all of that can be attributed to him being surrounded by better players at Chloorkop. Injuries certainly didn’t help, but age also comes for all of us.

Khama was the best in the business at Downs

Contrast those numbers with his stats at Sundowns. 47 goals in 140 appearances for the Brazilians was Billiat’s best strike ratio throughout his club career. 0.34 goals per game is a respectable goal-scoring rate for a man who operated mainly in wide areas or behind a conventional striker. This was most certainly the peak of Billiat’s career from a personal and physical perspective. He also scooped three DStv Premiership titles and the 2015 CAF Champions League among others, in a glittering five-year spell with Masandawana. At Sundowns, Billiat was arguably the best player in the country for more than a couple of years.
