“If a player can go box to box in modern football, then he is very intelligent. I think he will regain his form,” ex-Chiefs star on Castillo.

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Gert Schalkwyk has shared his views on Edson Castillo’s dip in form.

The 29-year-old Venezuelan international joined Amakhosi this season and made his presence felt immediately in the midfield.

He netted five times in his first three months but failed to replicate his form since Molefi Ntseki left Chiefs.

Schalkwyk told FARPost that the player just needs to score goals.

“For me, Castillo is a very good and intelligent player,” he told the publication.

“If a player can go box to box in modern football, then he is very intelligent. I think he will really regain his form.”

Chiefs have struggled for consistency this season and even under Cavin Johnson, the Soweto giants are yet to find form this season.

Cavin Johnson is in a comfort zone, says former Chiefs striker

Schalkwyk said Castillo was still putting in the work despite the lack of goals.

“The worst part in South African football is when you don’t score goals, no one really worries. But once you start scoring, even if you had a bad game, if you score a goal, everyone talks about you,” said the ex-Chiefs man.

“But you can see the work rate he is putting in the field of play, it’s very high. Chiefs have quality players; they must just find the right balance. Just to balance it very well because with Ox [Sibongiseni Mthethwa] also there, it’s a very good team.”

Chiefs are in action midweek and it remains to be seen if Castillo can find his form ahead of the Soweto Derby.
