After a successful pre-season in Spain, at the start of the current, Orlando Pirates are set to return ahead of 2024/25!

At the start of the season, Pirates made good use of their Spanish tactician’s contacts in the country.

During that pre-season, Pirates played against three teams from three different leagues and countries. Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv, local Las Palmas of LaLiga as well as Independiente del Valle. The Buccaneers started in very encouraging fashion, with a victory against the Israelites. They then followed that up with a 3-1 win over Independiente del Valle. Their last game being a 0-0 draw.

Pirates returning to Spain

Now after enjoying that experience, Pirates look to have stepped it up a notch ahead of the next season. This comes after an announcement from seven-time Europa League winners Sevilla, that they will be hosting the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup winners. According to the LaLiga side, this game will take place in just under a month’s time on the 15th of July.

“First up is the South African side Orlando Pirates, who will visit the Jesús Navas Stadium for a behind closed doors fixture on Wednesday 15 July,” wrote the club as they released their pre-season schedule.

This is exciting news for Pirates fans, as they will be facing opposition of an incredible pedigree. After winning two trophies, it could offer the club’s players to see where they’re in relation to challenging Mamelodi Sundowns. For Jose Rivieiro it could be the perfect opportunity to test his strongest eleven against one of the best teams in Europe.

Set to play againsr Sevilla!

Pirates will want to have finalized at least 80% of their playing squad before they jet off to Spain. Besides Sevilla, they’re expected to play other opposition either still in Spain or Germany as rumoured. Last week they released Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Thabang Monare and Siyabonga Mpontshane

Now the fanbase waits with bated breath to see who Pirates ends up signing.
