Bafana Bafana World Cup star Bongani Khumalo is rumoured to be on his way out of SuperSport United at the end of this season, with the club planning a fresh rebuild.

The 34-year-old has been with SuperSport for three years now and it seems like that will be where his journey ends. With the eSwatini-born centre-back’s contract coming to an end on the 30 June, it is reported that Matsatsantsa have remained coy with him and his representatives over a potential new deal.

SuperSport seem to be keen to move on from Khumalo

With just over a month remaining before his contract lapses, the fact that the club has still not given him an indication with regards to negotiations can be seen as a sign that the writing is already on the wall for Khumalo with regards to the player’s career at the SuperSport.

What would seem to further compound the misery of Khumalo with regards to his contract situation, would be the fact that it is believed the club has already started with the contract renewal negotiations of the players who also find themselves in the same shoes as the veteran centre back.

In fact, a source known to The Citizen has given the publication the “inside scoop” on these reports, indicating that it is highly unlikely that Khumalo will still be a SuperSport player next season.

“It’s that time of the season when players have to secure their future, but it doesn’t seem like Bongani’s (Khumalo) future is sorted at the moment. It gets frustrating for a player when you are coming to the end of your contract and the management of the club is not saying anything.”

The biggest indication yet

“Some of the guys are currently in negotiations with the management over their future at the club. I know Grant Kekana is in discussions with the SuperSport management and they are at the final stages from what I’ve been hearing here and there. So, from what I’ve noticed and think, it doesn’t look like he will be staying at the team,” the source concluded.
