Dumisani Zuma has got to get better without the ball – Gavin Hunt

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has told match-winner Dumisani Zuma he must improve the defensive side of his game if he is to earn a regular starting berth.

Dumisani Zuma came off the bench against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday to net the winning goal as Amakhosi rallied from behind to record a 2-1 victory and put an end to the league leaders’ unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership.

The attacking midfielder has featured predominantly as a substitute under Hunt this season, making seven appearances off the bench and a further three starts in the top flight.

Asked about Dumisani Zuma’s starting prospects after his eye-catching performance on Sunday, Hunt told the media: “How many coaches have had Zuma here? Quite a few.

“So it’s time, he’s really got to… he’s got ability, it’s the other part of the game, if he gets better at that, he plays.

“And that’s without the ball, he’s got to get better without the ball, and he did that today. And you could see a resurgence in him with the goal.”

Dumisani Zuma joined Kaizer Chiefs from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017 after making 62 appearances across three seasons.

He has since gone on to make 95 appearances for Amakhosi, bagging 12 goals and providing 11 assists.
