While no one will forget how Mamelodi Sundowns ran away with the title – again – you may well be scratching your head as to who finished in positions two to eight and thus qualified for next season’s MTN8 tournament.

Mamelodi Sundowns finished top, 16 points ahead of second-placed Cape Town City FC.

Both those sides will represent Mzansi in the CAF Champions League next season.

Royal AM claimed third place on goal difference from both fourth-placed Stellenbosch FC and fifth-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize’s side will fly the South African flag – along with Marumo Gallants – in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Sixth place went to Orlando Pirates who failed late on to haul in their Amakhosi Soweto rivals, while seventh and eighth were AmaZulu and SuperSport United, respectively.

The first round (quarter-finals) of the MTN8 is expected to be played on the weekend of 5-7 August and will see the following matches:
