Royal AM vs Cape Town City: Match preview

Royal AM will set out to grab their first win as they host Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership match on Wednesday afternoon. The Durban side came within seconds of claiming their first log points over the weekend only to be denied by a late winner from Swallows.

Cape Town City were held to a goalless draw in their first outing of the season against SuperSport United at the Athlone Stadium.

New head coach of Cape Town City, Eric Tinkler was pleased that the side looked well-organised in their first outing.

“If I have to take any positives from the game, I will take the fact that we kept a clean sheet,” Tinkler said.

“We had to fight aerially because of the long balls SuperSport were playing to Mabuza and Grobler, but we were well organised, well structured defensively.”

Royal AM coach John Maduka has identified the need to inject some urgency into the team’s play after a dour performance last time out.

“Most of the time, we allowed them to have the ball, then after winning the ball, we wanted to try and get them on the counterattack,” Maduka said.

“Something that did not happen because we were slow in reaction. We were very slow going forward.

“Our reaction when we had the ball there was no movement even in the final third. We know that we will get better and we will come right.”

Cape Town City are yet to taste defeat this season having won their MTN 8 quarterfinal before playing to an opening round stalemate in the DStv Premiership.
