In truth, although it was scheduled to be the last day of action, there are still several matches outstanding, mainly due to Orlando Pirates’ run in the CAF Confederation Cup which sadly ended in defeat on Friday in Nigeria.

Those outstanding matches were added to when the Royal AM v Mamelodi Sundowns clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

In matches that did finish, Kaizer Chiefs saw their hopes of a spot in Africa next season evaporate when they drew their Soweto derby 2-2 against Swallows FC at the FNB Stadium.

Amakhosi were reduced to 10 men when Phathutshedzo Nange was red-carded in the 63rd minute, but still managed to score the equaliser through Bernard Parker.

Elsewhere, there was despair for Baroka FC who were automatically relegated following their 1-0 defeat to Maritzburg United.

They will be replaced in the DStv Premiership next season by GladAfrica Championship winners Richards Bay FC.

Swallows finished second from bottom and will contest a three-team mini ‘tournament’ to determine their future in the top-flight – or the second tier of Mzansi football.
