Amazulu vs Swallows: Match preview

Last time out Amazulu opened their DStv Premiership campaign with a 1-0 loss to reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Swallows meanwhile claimed a last gasp 1-0 win over Premiership new boys Royal AM. Amazulu will no doubt set out to test Virgil Vries in the Swallows goal a whole lot more than Royal AM managed to.

AmaZulu central defender Tapelo Xoki described this fixture as a must-win match for the hosts.

“It is a game we have to win at all costs, we can’t afford to drop any more points,” Xoki said.

“Against Sundowns we played well but we did not get the result we deserved. We just have to knuckle down and grind out the results that we need.

“The last game we played here was against Swallows and we won [1-0 in June], so we want to start the new season here on that note. We are going to have to be positive and confident going into the game.”

Swallows head coach Brandon Truter is mindful that his team will need to be more clinical against a well-drilled Amazulu team.

“Decision making in the last third, I was so upset at halftime when we were still goalless with all the opportunities we had and all the box entries,” Truter said looking back at their opening match.

“That’s one aspect we need to look at. We are away to AmaZulu, who were in second place last season, a good team, and a good coach.

“We will go there and try to influence our structure and try to be dominant. Hopefully, we will get more than one goal and keep our clean sheet intact.”
