Dr Kaizer Motaung has bid farewell to Erick Mathoho who officially left Naturena on Thursday to end his 11-year stint with Kaizer Chiefs.

Dr Kaizer Motaung has bid farewell to Erick Mathoho who officially left Naturena on Thursday to end his 11-year stint with Kaizer Chiefs.

Mathoho joined Amakhosi from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012, and he was an integral member of the team until last season.

It was under the tutelage of Arthur Zwane that his contribution on the pitch became limited, and chances of him staying at Chiefs slowly became minimal.

Now, Dr Motaung has showered Mathoho with praise and dubbed him one of the Amakhosi legends who will always be welcome at Naturena.

KAIZER CHIEFS BOSS DR MOTAUNG BIDS EMOTIONAL FAREWELL TO MATHOHO

“We are happy that the man from Tshiombo in Limpopo realised his dream of donning the Gold & Black jersey of the team he supported from childhood. It’s not everyone who realises this dream,” said Dr Motaung on the club’s website.

“Erick now joins our long list of Kaizer Chiefs legends who served the Club and its supporters with aplomb over the last 53 years and he will always be welcomed at the Kaizer Chiefs Village.”

MATHOHO A KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND THROUGH AND THROUGH

Mathoho is indeed a Kaizer Chiefs legend through and through having featured 267 times for the club over the past 11 years, including 256 starts.

He contributed 22 goals during that period despite being a centre-back, and more over, he’s Amakhosi’s top goalscorer in the CAF Champions League with six goals.

In 2021, Mathoho surpassed Knowledge Musonda who left Chiefs having scored five goals in CAF Champions League.
