Don’t worry Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates still walked away with R800 000!

Despite Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates exiting the MTN8 quarter-finals, both sides walk away with a cool R800 000 each.

Despite Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates exiting the MTN8 quarter-finals, both sides walk away with a cool R800 000 each.

That is the same amount that both losing semi-finalists will receive with only the winners walking away with R8 million!

Amakhosi fans were left gutted after their side was knocked out by Sundowns.

After crawling their way back from 2-0 to tie the score at 2-2, Chiefs were well and truly in the tie. The match eventually went to penalties which is where it all fell apart.

They lost 2-1 on penalties in a dramatic classic at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs only managed to score one of their five kicks with the other four being saved by Man of the Match, Kennedy Mweene.

Despite this loss, Chiefs fans can hold their heads up high. Their side walks away with R800 000 and gave the pre-tournament favourites a run for their money, literally.

They pushed The Brazilians to the very end and there were plenty of good signs ahead of the start of the DStv Premiership next weekend.

Pirates also walk away with the same amount as Chiefs as well as Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu and SuperSport United. An early brace from Chiefs transfer target Ruzaigh Gamildien was enough to see the Dube Birds soar into the MTN8 semi-finals.

However, Pirates seems to grow as the game went on. The Bucs finished the game strongly, scoring the only goal in the second half.

Attention now turns to the DStv Premiership for both these sides.

Chiefs and Pirates are now R800 000 richer and can focus purely on the PSL season.
