Benni McCarthy’s ‘no-nonsense’ attitude in the AmaZulu dressing room is resulting in disharmony according to reports!

AmaZulu have struggled to replicate last season’s form and currently sit in 14th place on the DStv Premiership log standings with just just three points from four games.

An inside source has suggested that disharmony in the AmaZulu camp over the way Benni McCarthy loses his temper with his players may be a reason for Usuthu’s woeful form.

Benni McCarthy ‘disrespects’ senior AmaZulu players

“Every time the team doesn’t do well he blows a gasket. He just has a go at the players, some of whom are seniors, and they feel disrespected when that happens.” an inside source told Phakaaathi regarding Benni McCarthy’s behavior.

“That is actually one of the reasons why Shabba (Siphiwe Tshabalala) left the team. Benni would say things like he ‘doesn’t play names, even if you were a star in 2010 here you have to work because your name will not get you into the team’,”

Tshabalala made just three appearances for Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu last season before being released by the club after being deemed surplus to requirements.

We needed fresh blood – Benni

“It’s football, my friend. Life happened. “I got a group of young talented players who won’t come through if we keep holding onto the senior players.” Benni McCarthy explained regarding Tshabalala’s exit from the club.

“I think ‘Shabba’ has been a fantastic player to have and he’s given the knowledge he had. He passed it to the team and he might feel that he could still give more, and I definitely think so.

“But for me, the way the game has evolved and how fast the game is now, you see these young boys, they run for fun. It’s about speed and the way we play. We play a very high pressing game and I like my front men to work really hard.”

Benni McCarthy’s side did however progress to the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League after overcoming Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets FC in the first round.
