Chiefs announced the arrival of their latest signing in Yusuf Maart from Sekhukhune United on Tuesday evening, and he may not be the last.

Chiefs on a signing spree

Just a day before Maart’s arrival, Chiefs went on to announce six new signings.  The club unveiled the likes of Dillon Solomons, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, George Matlou, Siyethemba Sithebe, Zitha Kwinika, and Ashley du Preez. The excitement and joyful spirit was soon threatened by the emergence of the news of a potential dispute over the legitimacy of one of those signings. The player in question being Solomons, who’s signing was put under the microscope by the CEO of Royal AM Sinky Mnisi.

“I think there will be a story unfolding involving Dillan Solomons, watch this space. Due processes will be followed. There are no fights, we are not in a boxing ring. All I said about Dillan Solomons is that we must allow the process to unfold” Mnisi said while Speaking to Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified.

Agent responds

That then prompted a quick response from the player’s agent, Grant Nieuwenhuys, who sought to completely remove any doubts that Royal AM were ever in the picture for Solomons, before reiterating that Chiefs were the only club that followed the right procedures and therefore won the race to the player’s signature.

Pirates interest in Solomons confirmed

Furthermore, in doing that, Nieuwenhuys went on to confirmed that it was practically a two-horse race between Chiefs and their fierce city rivals Orlando Pirates.

“There’s nothing to take serious from our side, how can [you suggest] you signed the player when we’ve represented Dillan (Solomons) for seven years, we never got a call from them, this must have been a thing from club to club but we never sat with Royal AM,” he said on Tuesday evening. Chiefs did the right thing, followed the right protocol.” Said Nieuwenhuys to iDiskiTimes.

He then followed up by confirming the interest of Pirates in Solomons, who opted to sign for Chiefs.

“I mean we got more calls from [Orlando] Pirates and never a call from Royal AM. So how can you sign a player you never spoke to? It’s not fair and we will protect Dillan because you disrupting his focus now.” He continued.

FIVE interested clubs

In addition to that, he reiterated the message and the Pirates interest in Solomons while speaking to Andile Ncube after his show, according to SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe

“Dillan had offers from 5 clubs – and the last two to follow up were Chiefs and Pirates. The player made it clear he wants to go to Chiefs. No contact from Royal AM”. Nieuwenhuys said as per Molefe’s tweet.
