Chiefs striker crisis: U19 kid to start this weekend?

Kaizer Chiefs look unlikely to play Khama Biliat in the nine role again. A new kid could play against Stellenbosch this weekend.

Kaizer Chiefs are seemingly faced with a big decision to make. The club again might not have an available centre-forward against Stellenbosch this weekend.

KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKER PROBLEM

As The South African website previously reported, Amakhosi’s striker Ashley Du Preez is facing a late fitness test, while Caleb Bonfils-Bimenyamana awaits his work permit.

So, will Khama Billiat play as the nine again after a horror night in Cape Town on Tuesday? We doubt it.

The club’s exciting reserve team striker Wandile Duba was spotted training with the senior side on Thursday.

ZWANE TO PROMOTE EMERGENCY YOUNGSTER?

Similar situations are not unique in football. Coaches often find solutions by going to the reserve team to promote and register a youngster as late as the day before the game.

For Amakhosi, this could be an opportunity for the hot center forward Duba.

The 18-year-old scored five goals in six games during June’s Engen Knockout tournament, while also scoring in the semi-final of the DStv Diski Shield tournament.

Additionally, Duba was recently awarded the club’s Most Improved Player and Attacking Midfielder of the Season, a bit odd though because he is a striker.

The least we could see is his inclusion on the bench at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday. Another option could be his peer Mduzuzi Tshabalala but he is not a number nine.
