REPORT: Chiefs defender wants an exit from Naturena

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabani Dube could seek an early exit from his Chiefs contract due to increasingly limited game-time.

Thabani Dube joined Chiefs from Richard Bay last season, but has battled to force his way into regular first-team action ever since arriving at the Soweto giants.

The defender seems to have fallen even further down the pecking order after the arrival of Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove, and according to a report by Phakaaathi, he could now seek a move away from the club.

“It was Dove’s signing that really sealed his fate. He knew then that he was not in their plans, because they went and got a left-footed centre back from outside when he was already there,” the Phakaaathi source commented.

“While he continues to train hard and has remained a true professional, he knows his chances are not great and will leap at a move away.”

Chippa United, Cape Town City and Maritzburg United could apparently be interested in Dube should the opportunity to secure his services arise.

There are expected to be changes to the Chiefs squad in January

Recently, there have been clear indications that Chiefs could look to make a couple more squad additions in the next transfer window, with Amakhosi still far from the finished product despite an encouraging win in the recent Soweto derby.

Furthermore, Chiefs’ relative lack of depth in terms of strike-power has been exposed after an injury worry over Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who has been carrying a considerable weight of responsibility on his shoulders.

However, whether that means the club will dip into the January transfer market remains to be seen.

Coach Arthur Zwane has previously made no secret of the fact Chiefs are at least in the process of fine-tuning a profile of possible players – and particularly strikers – they may look to target in the next transfer window.

Hungarian striker Balint Bajner, who has previously spent time at the likes of Borussia Dortmund and West Ham, has interestingly been linked to Chiefs, while Bradley Cross seems to have started training on trial with Kaizer Chiefs this week.

What is abundantly clear is that the club’s head honchos know what they are looking for, and won’t rush blindly into the next transfer window in January.
