Could Chiefs consider player swap to sweeten Fleurs deal?

Chiefs are known to be interested in defender Luke Fleurs, and could reportedly consider a player exchange with SuperSport United.

Coach Arthur Zwane has previously made no secret of the fact Chiefs are in the process of fine-tuning a profile of possible players they may look to target in the next transfer window.

Hungarian striker Balint Bajner, who has previously spent time at the likes of Borussia Dortmund and West Ham, has interestingly been linked to Chiefs, while Bradley Cross has started training at Naturena, seemingly on trial with Kaizer Chiefs this month.

Amakhosi are also know to be very keen on bringing SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs to the club early next year. Sources have even indicated that there is a strong possibility the two clubs could reach an agreement in the near future, with Fleurs currently in the final months of his initial agreement with SuperSport.

In the latest reports from Soccer Laduma, it’s stated that the 22-year-old remains a priority target, and that veteran midfielder Cole Alexander could possibly be offered in exchange for Fleurs.

This move seems rather unlikely, though, and SuperSport may rather opt for a cash deal. United CEO Stanley Matthews has already stated that the utility defender will only be available at the of the season.

Matthews has made it clear that SuperSport don’t want to short-change themselves when they still have 18 important league games to play when the season resumes.

Meanwhile, there have been clear indications that Chiefs could look to make a couple more squad additions in the next transfer window, with Amakhosi still far from the finished product.

Furthermore, Chiefs’ relative lack of depth in terms of strike-power has been exposed after an injury worry over Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who has been carrying a considerable weight of responsibility on his shoulders.

On the striker front, further interesting reports have emerged to link Chiefs with Montenegro’s striker Boris Kopitovic, who is currently playing in the Singapore Premier League for Tampines Rovers.

What is abundantly clear for Amakhosi is that the club’s head honchos know what they are looking for, and won’t rush blindly into the next transfer window in January.

“We are scrutinising everything. We go deeper and deeper. We want to know the player’s attitude off the field, on the field and where he comes from… their family and all such things. They count a lot in helping the player to come in and perform and give his best all the time because Kaizer Chiefs is not an easy team to play for,” Zwane has said.

“Kaizer Chiefs is a different beast altogether, you know. If you are not strong mentally and you are not a strong character. Sometimes with talent alone you are never going to survive. We need players who can cope under pressure. That is the point we are coming from as coaches because we have been here. We know the pressure that comes with being a Kaizer Chiefs player.

“And that is how now we should be helping those new players to settle to perform. The good thing is that while some of them, while their performances are fluctuating here and there, there is some consistency.

“We will keep looking and if we get someone for January, we will go for them. If not, then there is nothing we can do because we are avoiding bringing in players for the sake of it.  We want to make sure that whoever comes in adds value.”
