Chiefs coach: I was not worried about my job!

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has insisted there was nothing unusual about the pressure on him ahead of the Soweto derby against Pirates.

Chiefs recently crashed out of the MTN8 following their 0-0 draw against AmaZulu in the second leg played at Moses Mabhida Stadium, but they immediately shook off that disappointment to claim a historic win over Pirates in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.

RIP: FORMER CHIEFS STAR PASSES AWAY AT JUST 36 YEARS OLD

During the first half of October, Chiefs had begun to string a few positive results together, but disappointing draws to TS Galaxy and AmaZulu had once again seemingly ramped up the pressure on Zwane.

It may be clear that the club is going through a rebuilding phase, but some fans seemed to already feel that Zwane isn’t the man for the job on the basis of what they have seen so far this season.

VIDEO: WHY CHIEFS WONDER GOAL SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED

There is no doubt that the pressure would have only got worse if Chiefs failed to get a positive result against Pirates, but Zwane has insisted he wasn’t feeling any pressure going into the game.

“I came into this game not even worried about my job, and also helping players deal with the pressure. For me, pressure is a privilege… There are many other coaches who want to be in my position so that’s a privilege, and it means I am going to have to deal with the pressure …

“It doesn’t mean that by winning this game pressure will go away. Pressure will always be there when you coach a team of Chiefs’ calibre.”
