Chiefs coach: Keep the faith… as Sundowns did with Pitso Mosimane!

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has referenced the faith previously placed in Pitso Mosimane by Sundowns as a sign that fortunes can change.

Kaizer Chiefs’ 2021/22 DStv Premiership season plunged deeper into crisis after a home defeat against Cape Town City FC on Saturday.

The defeat was the Glamour Boys’ fourth in a row, and Amakhosi are now in real danger of dropping out of the top eight in the standings with just four matches in the season remaining.

Just this past week stand-in coach Arthur Zwane spoke about the way forward for the club, which included making a reference to former Sundowns superstar coach Pitso Mosimane.

“When you look at the way things are right now, you would maybe say that it will take a while but I can assure you that we are getting closer,” Zwane said on Wednesday following their defeat to Arrows. “Yes, if you look at the results – I will make an example with [former Downs] coach Pitso [Mosimane].

“When he was at Sundowns, several times he was close to the sack but the president believed in him and look at where Sundowns is. Even now that he is no longer there, it is almost two years since he left, but there is continuity.

“There is a pecking order in terms of players who are coming in at the different age groups and all that. And when they bring in players, you can see why they are doing that.

“That’s what we are trying to do right now. Not that we are copying Sundowns – I mean Kaizer Chiefs has done that several times in the past – it’s just that right now we haven’t been getting things right for some reason.”

KAIZER CHIEFS SET ANOTHER UNWANTED RECORD

This was Amakhosi’s third league game since Stuart Baxter was sacked as head coach, while a fourth consecutive defeat in a row represents the first time the club has suffered such a terrible run of results since the inception of the PSL in 1996.
