Mamelodi Sundowns have moved ahead of both rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the race for a transfer target.

It’s never a surprise to see all of Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates competing for the same player to boost themselves.

The latest player to find himself admired by the so-called big three is TS Galaxy attacker Lehlohonolo Mojela. It was first reported during the season that Chiefs had shown interest in him, as they look revamp their attack. Sundowns then entered the picture, straight after the player waxed lyrical about the club on radio. In that radio interview he confirmed the Brazilians are his dream transfer. Pirates, on the other hand, have just been linked to the player, who is admittedly a boyhood fan.

Sundowns lead Chiefs and Pirates for Mojela

This publication reported last month that Sundowns were interested in Mojela. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, they’re pressing ahead of Chiefs and Pirates with their move!

“Actually Kaizer Chiefs were firstly in front as much as showing interest in the player is concerned. They started monitoring him last season when he was still at Casric Stars but the deal didn’t go through and he signed for TS Galaxy. This time around both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have shown interest and in the player and have been monitoring him. But as things stand, Sundowns are in front. But it’s a three-horse race as things stand. Now Sundowns are leading the race,” said a source.

A second source has suggested that Sundowns’ financial muscle offers another advantage over Chiefs and Pirates in the Mojela chase.

Player knows what he wants

“The player is expected to only leave if the highest bidder comes through. It’s believed that the club has received offers from almost all the three clubs and that’s why they will only look at the highest bidder. Though Sundowns came into the scene a bit late, they are the ones who stand a better chance of signing him because of their financial muscle,” said the second source.

It now remains to be seen if either Chiefs or Pirates will look to challenge Sundowns for Mojela. This, especially since the player himself had stated his preference.
