Mamelodi Sundowns swoop in for Kaizer Chiefs target Mendieta

The Argentinian playmaker, who excelled for Stellies, bagged nine goals and eight assists in the PSL season from 26 appearances. His style is easy on the eye and suits the league in that he’s got a low centre of gravity, can pick a decisive pass in the final third and is more than capable of beating his man 1v1.

At R10 million, if rumours of his release clause are to be believed, signing 29-year-old Júnior Mendieta comes with some attached financial risk, but it’s a risk the Brazilians seem willing to take.

Mendieta has dazzled for Stellies

Unfancied Stellenbosch FC finished the season in a creditable sixth position, and much of that was down to the talents of Mendieta in the final third. Are you happy with these reports, Downs fans?
