It’s been a challenging start to the season for Maritzburg, with the club currently bottom of the DStv Premiership standings after managing just two wins from 13 games.

However, Maduka recently insisted that he felt that there could be a turnaround in fortunes.

“Pressure will always be there, but you must remember we are trying to build a new team,” he said after they were thrashed 5-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns at home last week. “You can see the players we introduced are new in the PSL. When you are building a new team things like these will happen along the way. It is part of growth. As a coach, pressure will always be there, but we take one game at a time and we look forward to [the] next game.”

However, it now appears that Maduka will be let go by Maritzburg before the resumption of the season later this year.

The DStv Premiership log certainly makes for interesting reading as the league goes into a two-month break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The new season of the DStv Premiership has already dished up plenty of excitement, but fans will now need to be patient as the competition heads into an extended break as a result of the Fifa World Cup.

Notably, Sundowns have bounced back from the disappointment of their MTN8 exit, and look handily placed five points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership table.

The six points and eight goals see them hold a five-point gap over second-placed Richards Bay. The Brazilians also have a game in hand over the Premiership newcomers who have been the surprise package of the season so far.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United missed the chance to go second after after a 1-1 draw with Swallows on Sunday afternoon, but they will be quite pleased to be in third place at this point.

In Saturday’s highly-anticipated Soweto derby, Yusuf Maart not only finished off what is sure to be a goal-of-the-season contender, but his incredible effort from within his own half served as the match-winner for Chiefs.

As a result, Amakhosi have now leapfrogged the Buccaneers to lie fourth on the log, two points ahead of fifth-placed Pirates.
