With only two days of the current transfer window remaining, Kaizer Chiefs have agreed terms to sign Sibongiseni Mthethwa from Stellenbosch FC.

‘Ox’, as the 29-year-old Bafana international is known, has penned a three-year deal with the Naturena-based outfit that runs until June 2026.

Chiefs released a statement on Thursday morning

Before joining Stellenbosch, Mthethwa played for Royal Eagles and Black Leopards. He featured 29 times for Stellenbosch last season, and made his debut for Bafana Bafana in September 2022.

“We warmly welcome Sibongiseni Mthethwa to the team,” says Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. “We know he’s a good player with great experience under his belt. We believe that he will hit the ground running and contribute straight away, knowing fully well what is expected of every player that dons the Gold & Black jersey of Amakhosi.

“We look forward to many great performances in the next coming seasons. We would like, once again, to thank Stellenbosch for their professionalism during our negotiations, and we look forward to the continuation of our working well together.”

The player will move to Joburg and officially join his teammates at training on Monday, 25 September.

Stellenbosch had already bid him farewell on Wednesday

“When Mthethwa initially joined the club, a buy-out clause was negotiated into his contract and that has now been activated by Kaizer Chiefs,” Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie said.

“It’s always sad to part ways with a player and person of Ox’s calibre but we would like to wish him all of the best in this next step of his career.

“He was a consummate professional throughout his time in Stellenbosch and it goes without saying that his influence on the pitch and in the dressing room will be missed.

“Apart from his on-field contributions, he also played an active role in our communities and must be commended for the enthusiastic manner in which he embraced the SFC family and supporters.

“Mthethwa embodied the values of the club, and we would like to thank him for his immense contributions to our cause over the last two years.”
