Hlongwane was reported to be on the verge of joining Sundowns from Maritzburg in the January transfer window, but Kadodia has since poured cold water on those prospects.

Hlongwane has become undroppable for Bafana Bafana

Hlongwane has been a revelation for Maritzburg since breaking into their first team a couple of seasons ago. His displays as a powerful winger on either side of the pitch, had even caught the eye of the national team coach Hugo Broos who quickly made him a regular.  He has since become undroppable for Bafana Bafana and his rise has seen him catch the eye of the big three of DStv Premiership.

In the last two transfer windows it has been Sundowns who have been reported to have the most interest in the player, with reports rife that Hlongwane was close to being confirmed as the second signing for Ka bo Yellow in this window. The Tshwane outfit has already added a winger in the form of Surprise Ralani from Cape Town City this window.

It seems, however, that they will not be able to add Hlongwane to that particular list, as Kadodia has confirmed European interest in the player, and that his preference is to play elsewhere.

Maritzburg address the rumours

“There is interest but we haven’t confirmed anything yet. Once we are happy and the player  (Hlongwane) is happy [something can happen], The player is determined to go overseas, to Europe. He doesn’t want to go to a local club.It all depends if the offer is right. But whatever we do both parties should be happy, the club and the player. We have had enquiries. Obviously his representatives would want to do a deal because for the agent there is money in it”  Kadodia said to TimesLIVE

Kadodia went on to state that any move away from Maritzburg for Hlongwane would most likely come at the end of the season and not the current transfer window. He, however, did not rule out that possibility.

“We wouldn’t like to let the player go until the end of the season. Again, that all depends on the kind of negotiations we are in.” He concluded.

Sundowns move appears all but ruled out

It now remains to be seen where Hlongwane will end the current season, but more importantly which club jersey he will be wearing in the next. One thing is for certain though, as it stands, it won’t be that of Maritzburg or Sundowns.
