Sphelele Mkhulise impresses

Emerging midfield stalwart Sphelele Mkhulise impressed Bongani Zungu the most on his return.

He believes that with players like him in their ranks, Sundowns can challenge for the Caf Champions League this season.

“Just to speak on the tournament, I feel we showed depth in our team.

“For me, seeing guys like Mkhulise…when I left here he was so young and seeing how he has grown as a player is unbelievable.

“We have depth and I always tell them in the dressing room that we can go as far as winning the Champions League if we focus and work hard together,”

Sundowns are the only South African team represented in the Caf Champions League group stage.

They won through with the biggest aggregate win of the second round over part-timers La Passe.

The draw for the Caf Champions League group stage will take place later this month.

Sundowns are certain only that they will not face Zamalek, Petro de Luanda or Horoya in the group stage as they share Pot 2 with those sides.

The Caf Champions League group stage gets underway in February 2022.

Sundowns will hope that by that time Bongani Zungu is up to speed.
