The deal negotiations are said to have been long and drawn out taking into account that ‘Ben 10’ had other “lucrative offers”.

However, Sundowns eventually presented a deal that met his expectations.

The Duduza-born midfielder seems happy to be back to a club where he came to light before he moved abroad.

In an interview with Mamelodi Sundowns TV, Zungu revealed that he will wear jersey number eight which was last worn by the former club’s captain Hlompo Kekana.

ZUNGU REVEALS HIS JERSEY NUMBER AT DOWNS

“We decided that number eight would be good for me,” he told Mamelodi Sundowns TV.

“The guy who wore the jersey is a legend here, I played with him, he was my midfield partner, Hlompo Kekana.

“I’m sure he will be happy to know that jersey number eight is a jersey…it’s a heavy jersey, a guy that achieved a lot at the club.

“And since I come back as a man, matured player, experienced player, I will try my best not to drop the level of the jersey and just to keep it as top as it is.”

With regards to his decision to return to Mamelodi Sundowns, Zungu said he was influenced by the improvement of the club in recent years.

“It feels great to be back, the welcome I got from the fans was amazing, even before I signed I could see on social media how fans were reacting to me being linked to the club, from there onwards I just knew I would feel welcome,” Zungu said.

“The atmosphere was amazing at the stadium, I couldn’t be happier and it feels good to be back, to meet everyone, the staff, the people who’ve been here the longest time, the kit man, the security guards. I feel very happy to be back and coming to start.

“When I left Sundowns was already on a high, I came here as a young boy from AmaTuks, the club changed my life and we won trophies. To come back to see how the club has improved with even more quality players, it was influential in my decision in coming back here – I’m very excited about it.”
