Kaizer Chiefs recently announced the immediate suspension of midfielder Dumisani Zuma for the second time this season. Without going into details, Chiefs stated that Zuma, this time around, breached the club’s code of conduct.

He was first suspended in November 2021 following his arrest for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Thursday, Chiefs released the following statement to confirm Zuma would be leaving Naturena:

“Attacking midfielder Dumsani Zuma’s numerous disciplinary issues have led to the Club letting him go with a year still remaining on his contract… This follows his latest appearance in front of the DC, which resulted in his dismissal as recommended by an independent authority. The 27-year-old only featured three times in 2021/22 for Chiefs….

“Since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017, he has been suspended a number of times, including twice in one season. He was also sent to rehab and counselling in the season that just ended. Over five seasons, he played 100 matches (25 starts + 75 subs) and scored 13 goals. We wish Dumi well in the future.”

Previously, some reports suggest that Zuma apparently had a “heated altercation with the club’s coach Arthur Zwane and was subsequently separated from the rest of the squad who were in training”.

It was further stated that Zuma had fallen out of favour with Zwane to such an extent that he was unlikely to feature again under the management of the interim coach, and he has now been let go.

In recent news on the matter, SABC Sport reported that the players’ camp had requested a clearance. According to the article, information suggests that another internal disciplinary hearing had been conducted – although the outcome was not publicised – and he will now be looking to make a fresh start elsewhere.

As reported by KickOff, that fresh start could apparently come at AmaZulu, especially considering that Siyethemba Sithebe is set to head in the opposite direction to join Chiefs.

Interestingly, AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has already confirmed that the club will be strategically offloading and recruiting certain players as they overhaul the squad in the off-season.

“We have 30 players not including MDC, we will release 13 and some of them are running out of contract, we won’t renew, we will sign eight players and have already spoken with some,” Zungu told Ukhozi FM.

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has highlighted the importance of discipline in the new era at Amakhosi

Zuma – who has also been linked with potential interest from Royal AM – has now played last game for Chiefs, and Zwane has already spoken out about the perils of ill-discipline.

“Discipline is everything. Discipline doesn’t start on the field, it starts off the field.

“This is not only for Chiefs players, it is for any player. A football career is very short and that is why you have to be focused and disciplined and show passion for the game. There is no way the game can love you, if you don’t love it.”
