News of the imminent sale of DStv Premiership Bloemfontein Celtic has been met with shock by fans and former players alike.

Bloemfontein Celtic have sold their PSL status to businesswoman and reality TV star Shauwn Mkhize for a fee in the region of R50 million.

Phunya Sele Sele’s financial struggles have been well documented while Royal AM have been looking for a way into the top-flight after failing to honour their recent promotion-relegation playoff fixtures.

As such, the two clubs have come to an agreement which has been ratified by the governing body.

TimesLIVE published an excerpt from the letter sent to both clubs, which read: “The application to approve the transfer of the football club known until now as Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club from the seller to the acquirer, [and the related approvals in respect of a name change (to Royal AM FC) and relocation (to Chatsworth Stadium)] served before the executive committee today.

“The executive committee considered the application and supporting documentation against the requirements of article 14 of the NSL Handbook.

“The transfer has been approved on the basis sought…”

Bloemfontein Celtic were founded by Norman Mathobisa and Victor Mahatane in 1969.

The news of MamKhize successfully purchasing Bloemfontein Celtic doesn’t come as a shock after reports of her intentions to do so emerged on Friday.

MaMkhize has already sold Royal AM’s GladAfrica Championship status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) with the club already relocating to Thohoyandou.

Bloemfontein Celtic will relocate to KwaZulu-Natal ahead of the start of the new DStv Premiership season next week.

Bloemfontein Celtic are due to play Swallows away from home in their opening DStv Premiership clash of the season on Sunday, 22 August at 15:00.
