Matsatsansa came into the fixture still within an outside chance of league glory, while Leopards were looking to continue their escape from the relegation zone.

Black Leopards 0-1 Supersport United: PSL match report

Bradley Grobler, who is chasing the PSL golden boot at 13 goals this season, was set up by Kudakwashe Mahachi from out wide, but the Bafana frontman’s header sailed wide.

The striker was again in the thick of things when he forced a save off King Ndlovu in the 11th minute.

The Lidoda Duvha shot-stopper remained the busier of the two keepers early on, denying Mahachi soon after.

It stayed a frustrating encounter for both sides, who battled to find the breakthrough throughout.

An opportunity to put United ahead in the 73rd minute fell to Bradley Grobler, who was given the responsibility from the spot-kick after a foul from Leopards.

However, the Bafana striker only succeeded in drawing a save from Ndlovu, failing to add to his 13 goals this season.

Leopards had a chance to pull ahead through Thiklas Tutlwa, who was entrusted with a free-kick just outside of the United box, but the rookie’s effort was easily dealt with Ronwen Williams.

The breakthrough eventually came through Gamphani Lungu, who capitalised off some lazy defence after Ndlovu had denied Thamsanqa Gabuza.

The Zambian winger gathered the rebound and directed the ball into an empty net for the opener.

That goal proved just enough for United, who now move to third in the standings, while Leopards’ escape from the red zone is not complete with three games left to play as they remain stuck at 13th place.
